Zcash Developers Update 8-18-19

By Helena Flack

Welcome to our fortnightly community and communications update; last week’s engineering update is available here

A quick intro from me: I’m Helena and I joined ECC last week as the Communications Manager, so just wanted to quickly introduce myself before we get started on the update! Previously at Parity Tech, I co-founded the Department of Decentralization, a non profit community initiative in Berlin and I’m super excited to join a talented team and contributing towards the mission of The Electric Coin Company and Zcash.

Dev Fund update:

The Zcash Foundation released its Guidance on Dev Fund Proposals, which outlines its approach to gauging community sentiment and its current perspective on acceptable models. One idea the Foundation surfaced was to require ECC to reconstitute itself into a nonprofit. In response we released the following statement outlining what we are doing to help the community decision process and a call to action to contribute to the discussion and decide your future. There is broad agreement within the Community, including the Zcash Foundation and the Electric Coin Company, on three core principles: Transparency, Accountability, and Use Of Funds To Purpose, and we look forward to hearing your views. We will be releasing an assessment on proposals around the 26th August so keep an eye out for that.

ECC is hiring!

We are still growing our super talented team. We’re hiring across product, engineering, DevOps and business development. Open positions are listed here, keep an eye out as more will be added in the future. If you don’t see a perfect fit for you just yet, but feel like you can contribute to the mission of the Electric Coin Company we would still love to hear from you so please feel free to drop us a line at jobs@electriccoin.co!

ECC out and about

In the last update we mentioned the Crypto Community Project in the South Bronx NY Aug. 1-2 at the BXL Business Incubator. The first Crypto Bootcamp was completed and we worked with teams from Messari and Gemini on the ground helping and we had a great response from the press, check out a couple of the write-ups from Coindesk, and Cryptobriefing. Some of the team will be in Berlin for Blockchain Week, 18th August 2019 until 26th August. I will in fact be moderating a crypto-journalism panel at the ETHBerlin conference, and we are also joining Infura, Skale Labs, DARMA Capital and Raiden in hosting the welcome reception for all the hackers in town. Let us know if you are in town to say hi!
